spring break was this past week and ken and i had lots of adventures locally.
on sunday, we got up very early (thank you cats) so we went for a drive to get donuts from krispy kreme. it was a bit drizzly out and there were lots of clouds around the valley which led to a nice surprise adventure. we drove up to black mountain which was obscured by the clouds but had a nice dusting of snow around the foothills. from there we drove to red rock canyon which was quite snowy and very beautiful! we also stopped at a nearby spring (the name of which i can never recall) and walked along the boardwalk and even saw a woodpecker.
on monday, we went to valley of fire and hiked a lot of short trails and even climbed some rocks. we tried to see everything while we were there since it's kind of a far drive and cost $6 to get in. it was a gorgeous day and the scenery was amazing.
on wednesday, we went back to red rock canyon to hike the calico tanks trail. we had hiked this trail last year but there was no water at the end then so we went back because ken had just hiked the hard way to the peak the previous week and found lots of water and i was eager to see it. after we got to the tank, ken suggested that we climb to the peak since the hike in had been so pleasant. we scrambled up the rock and made it to the peak. it was quite high and very scary for me but i survived and ken got me back down safely.
my arms got quite sunburned unfortunately so we didn't have many more adventures. we played a lot of WoW which was a lot of fun, went on a moonlight hike with about 115 people a third of the way up black mountain, and played frisbee with my friend diana.
now the break is over and it's back to school tomorrow.

new blog!
ken helped me set up a blog today so that i can (easily) share the photos and stories from our adventures with my friends and family. i'm really excited as my original plan was to send the links to the photo galleries in emails and just tell everyone individually about the events, which hasn't actually been working all that well.
i'll probably put up lots of pictures of rocks (with ken's help) as well so that you can all see my slowly expanding collection.
so i hope you all enjoy seeing the pictures and reading about what we've been up to.
